Call for Leadership Opportunities with ASPET

ASPET is looking for dedicated members to fill a handful of critical leadership roles with the Society.  For the leadership term starting July 1, 2023, ASPET is considering nominations for the following positions:

Chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee

A newly established committee for the Society, ASPET is looking for an individual with experience leading societies and/or organizations with their IDEA initiatives to lead ASPET with its continued focus in this area. The charge of the IDEA Committee is to work in an advisory capacity to review, assess, and provide recommendations about how to build and sustain a diverse, inclusive culture and an environment of belonging within the Society. The committee will help carry out the Society’s overall strategies for IDEA. The committee will work collaboratively within ASPET to ensure that Society programs, policies, benefits, honors, awards, and service opportunities are inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all members and that the voices of membership and leadership are diverse. The Chair of the IDEA Committee will also serve as the IDEA Representative on the ASPET Council as a non-voting ex officio member. The appointment will be for a three-year term.    

ASPET Representative on the FASEB Board

As a member of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), ASPET is entitled to appoint a representative to the FASEB Board. Its mission is to advance health and well-being by promoting research and education in biological and biomedical sciences through collaborative advocacy and service to their member societies and their members. The ASPET Representative serves on the ASPET Council as a non-voting ex officio member. The appointment will be for a four-year term. Program Committee Chair

The Program Committee is responsible for planning the program of the ASPET Annual Meeting, including determining acceptance of abstracts and their programming into sessions.  Additionally, the Program Committee evaluates proposals for ASPET’s webinar series, Focus on Pharmacology. The Chair of this committee will play a major role in the success of ASPET meeting programming. The Chair of the Program Committee will also serve on the ASPET Council as a non-voting ex officio member.  The appointment will be for a three-year term. 

Organizing Committee Chair for 2024 ASPET Annual Meeting

This newly formed committee has been created to support key components of the 2024 ASPET Annual Meeting occurring May 16 – 19, 2024 in Arlington, Virginia.  Working in partnership with the Program Committee, the Chair will lead a small group focused on the 2024 Annual Meeting to identify keynote speakers, develop session proposals on a few cutting-edge topics, provide connections for fundraising, and generate recommendations for local social events.  The appointment will be for just a one-year term.

Fellows Review Committee Chair

Selection as a Fellow of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (FASPET) is an honor bestowed to our most distinguished members. Fellows are recognized for their meritorious efforts to advance pharmacology, through their scientific achievements, mentorship, and service to the Society. The Chair of the Fellows Review Committee will lead the group that is charged with reviewing nominations for the FASPET Program and compiling a list of finalists for recommendation to the ASPET Council for review and final approval. The appointment will be for a three-year term.
