Jointly sponsored lecture with the Japanese Pharmacological Society and ASPET.
Dr. Yoshikatsu Kanai from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine will deliver the ASPET-JPS Lecture titled "Nutrient Transporters in Molecular Target Drug Discovery."
Transporters of organic solutes including nutrients contribute to their distribution in the body. Thus, the drugs acting on the transporters alter it and ameliorate disrupted homeostasis as exemplified by SGLT2 inhibitors in diabetes mellitus. The nutrient transporters in cancers could further the targets of anti-cancer therapeutics. In the lecture, Dr. Kanai’s recent trials to develop inhibitors of cancer-type amino acid transporter SLC7A5 will be introduced and discussed in terms of molecular target drug discovery.
