Neurodegeneration is a feature of devastating diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer disease. There is an urgent need to develop effective treatments and develop relevant model systems to shed light on the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases. This symposium highlights the latest advances made in understanding neuronal mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, diagnostic approaches and the latest pharmacological approaches including traditional Chinese medicine. Human clinical studies presented in this symposium will describe current clinical and experimental approaches to treat Parkinson’s disease and how to improve quality of life in patients with neurodegenerative diseases. This symposium is co-sponsored by the Chinese Pharmacological Society and American Society for Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics.
