Many therapeutic agents are being repurposed, a process that uses a drug already approved to treat one condition/disease and safely applying it to another. The incorporation of repurposed drugs can be applied at all levels of research and promotes the development of new therapeutic approaches. Additionally, this methodology encourages researchers to investigate alternative pathways when targeting diseases. The goal of this symposium is to highlight both clinical and basic researchers that are using this approach, and to promote the NIH NCATS program which supports clinical and translational research in drug repurposing.
