FASEB released its annual report presenting funding recommendations for five of the nation’s research agencies. “Investments in research have enhanced quality of life, developed novel treatments for devastating diseases, driven innovation, and created billion dollar industries,” stated FASEB President Joseph R. Haywood, PhD.

“We are at a crossroads, and this funding report makes a statement about the long-term stability of science funding for this country. Congress should ensure future progress will not be jeopardized by providing annual increases of at least five percent each year for research and development for the next five years, beginning in FY 2016. This investment will put American science back on track.” FASEB’s report includes the following funding recommendations for FY 2016:

• National Institutes of Health: at least $32 billion
• National Science Foundation: at least $7.72 billion
• Department of Energy Office of Science: at least $5.34 billion
• Veterans Affairs Medical and Prosthetic Research Program: at least $622 million
• Department of Agriculture: at least $450 million for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative and $1.189 billion for the Agricultural Research Service
