ASPET notes with sympathy the passing of ASPET member Dr. Dolores Shockley, the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in pharmacology, the first to be appointed to chair a pharmacology department in the United States, and namesake of the Dolores Shockley Poster Award. 

Dr. Shockley's life and work will be celebrated in the feature story of the next issue of The Pharmacologist.
