2024 JPET Editorial Fellowship Program

The JPET Editorial Fellowship program is a one-year program for senior post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty members with relevant expertise in pharmacology and drug development. The program builds important skills as a peer reviewer and as an editor. The program also provides an in-depth opportunity to work interactively with a JPET associate editor learning important elements of the editorial process. Participants learn all aspects of the JPET submission process, peer review, and editorial decisions. Fellows meet quarterly to discuss aspects of the editorial process, how to develop special sections, and what’s required to write a JPET “Viewpoint” on an accepted manuscript with high-topical interest to JPET readers. Fellows are also invited to participate in at least one JPET editorial board meeting.

JPET is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive membership of its editorial team and encourages applicants from groups underrepresented in science to apply.

2023 JPET Editorial Fellows

Getting the opportunity to be a part of the JPET Editorial Fellowship program has been extremely engaging and an excellent learning experience to better understand a critical, yet often hidden, part of the academic research realm. Being a part of this mentored program has allowed for both unique one-on-one mentorship with Associate Editors of JPET and collaborative projects for the journal with other Editorial Fellows. This program allows for “behind-the-scenes” access to a process normally shrouded in confusion and unknowns, yielding robust and considerate future reviewers. I highly recommend this program for anyone interested in scientific publishing and the collegial practice of peer review.

It was a great honor to be a 2023 JPET editorial fellow because I learned how a transparent review system works. In addition, I learned from other reviewers' comments how to improve my view of manuscripts and provide important decisions. Lastly, I am grateful to Dr. Lash’s timely feedback on my review comments for each manuscript and his training.
