Poster Competition at EB2006

The Division hosted a poster competition with over 200 in attendance at EB2006. Ten predoctoral posters and 7 post-doctoral poster were judged by 19 division members.  First place winners were invited to serve on the Executive Committee for the next year. First place winners also received $500, second place winners received $200, and third place winners received $100. The division was fortunate to have the continued financial support of Eli Lily and DOV Pharmaceuticals toward the award prize monies.

Predoctoral Competition:

1st place: Julie R. Field, Vanderbilt University (sponsor: Randy Blakely), “Identification of residues in the serotonin transporter engaged in high affinity recognition of antidepressants and cocaine”.
2nd place (TIE): Laura L. Lash, University of Texas Medical Branch (sponsor: Geoffrey T. Swanson) ”Pharmacological activity of synthetic analogs of dysiherbaine on glutamate receptors”, and Toni L. Richards, University of Kansas Medical Center (sponsor: Beth Levant), “Clorgyline-induced modification of sensitization to quinpirole: Effects on behavior and local cerebral glucose utilization”.
3rd place: Shinjae Chung, University of California, Irvine (sponsor: Olivier Civelli),  “The central effect of MCH system studied using a specific MCH 1R antagonist isolated from combinatorial libraries."

Post-Doctoral Competition:

1st place: Dr. Benjamin Free, NIH/NINDS (sponsor: David Sibley), “The chaperone protein calnexin regulates cell surface expression of both D1 and D2 dopamine receptors."
2nd place: Dr. Loren K. Henry, Vanderbilt University (sponsor: Randy Blakely),  ‘A critical site in the human serotonin transporter defines sodium and chloride dependence."
3rd place Dr. Trent Volz, University of Utah (sponsor: Annette Fleckenstein),  ‘In vitro assessment of dopamine uptake and methamphetamine-induced dopamine efflux at the vascular monoamine transporter-2."

Division Activities at EB2003

The division sponsored scientific, business and social events at the EB2003 Meeting in San Diego April 11-15, 2003. We thanks all who helped make the meeting a great success.

Division Activities at the 2002 Society for Neuroscience Meeting

Our Division was quite active at the recent SFN Meeting in Orlando:  A myriad of research accomplishments was reported by our members; We helped staff an ASPET booth in the Exhibits section; We also co-hosted a mixer (with the Division for Behavioral Pharmacology) for neuroscientists interested in the effects of drugs on the central nervous system and behavior. This latter event was attended by students, postdoctoral fellows, senior and junior investigators.  Click HERE to view photos of our division activities.
