Postdoctoral Positions, University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio Department of Pharmacology,
Center for Biomedical Neuroscience
Post-doctoral positions to work on NIH- and other
funded basic research projects addressing: a) norepinephrine and
other monoamines in the effects of acute and chronic stress on
behavior, emotional reactivity, cognition and HPA activity; b)
regulatory mechanisms underlying chronic antidepressant drug action;
c) novel early intervention approaches in prevention and treatment
of PTSD; and d) effects of early stress on vulnerability to adult
stress as a model of PTSD. We employ a variety of techniques from
molecular to behavioral: in situ hybridization to study regulation
of gene expression in rat brain; immunocytochemistry and receptor
autoradiography; microdialysis to assess changes in transmitter
release in prefrontal cortex, limbic forebrain and hypothalamus;
measures of plasma stress hormones; and a battery of behavioral
tests to assess anxiety, active vs passive behavioral coping
strategies, social behavior, executive function and cognitive
flexibility (e.g., reversal learning, cognitive set-shifting, etc).
Individuals who have completed or will complete Ph.D.
training in neuroscience, psychology, biology, pharmacology or a
related field are encouraged to apply. Current post-docs seeking a
second post-doctoral position are also welcome. San Antonio is a
